The Material Handler is responsible for supporting maintenance operations and supply chain functions through the safe handling, movement, storage, and tracking of materials, parts, and equipment. This role ensures maintenance teams have the necessary materials available while maintaining accurate inventory and adhering to safety and operational standards.
Duties and Responsibilities: Material Handling & Inventory Control- Issue materials to maintenance personnel as needed
- Maintain accurate inventory records in CMMS/ERP systems
- Monitor stock levels and notify appropriate personnel of shortages
Maintenance Support- Stage parts, tools, and materials for planned maintenance work
- Assist maintenance technicians in locating and transporting equipment
- Track work order materials and ensure proper allocation
- Support shutdowns, turnarounds, and preventative maintenance activities
Shipping & Receiving- Load and unload deliveries using forklifts or other equipment
- Coordinate with vendors and carriers as needed
General Duties- Operate material handling equipment (forklifts, pallet jacks, etc.)
- Maintain records and documentation related to inventory and materials
- Support continuous improvement initiatives within maintenance and supply chain
- Perform other duties as assigned
Required Skills and Qualifications:- High school diploma or GED required
- 2+ years of experience in an industrial, warehouse, or maintenance environment preferred
- Knowledge of inventory control and material handling practices
- Experience in heavy industry (mining, manufacturing, energy, etc.) preferred
- Familiarity with CMMS or ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle) preferred
- Ability to operate forklifts and other warehouse equipment (certification preferred)
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Basic computer skills (Microsoft Office, inventory systems)
- Ability to read and interpret work orders, packing slips, and technical documents
- Good communication and teamwork abilities
- Must possess a valid Driver’s License and be able to operate a light vehicle.
- Ability to work in an industrial environment requiring the use of PPE when required
Physical Demands: To be eligible for this position, an individual must possess the following requirements to perform the essential job functions:- Must be able to physically perform the basic life operational functions of climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking on uneven surfaces, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, and repetitive motion.
- Able to operate a telephone and mine phone/radio with sufficient voice and hearing to carry on a conversation for the purpose of communicating information.
- Comfortable working at heights and using ladders or lifts
- Able to hear sufficiently to distinguish various pitches of warning alarms.
- Able to lift up to 50 pounds periodically.
